I woke up at the super early hour of 8:30am so I could be on time for the CycloMesa Fun Ride. Although I’d planned on running this morning, I just wasn’t feeling it. My right ankle still felt a little sore after running all out at the Splash and Dash so I settled for the easy 11 mile bike ride as my training for today.
Driving 2 miles to the event took longer than if we had simply biked to the starting line but we had family in town (who do not bike) and thus drove. We got our packets, our bibs, and lined up at the start. In the hurry to get out the door, I wasn’t really thinking of my clothes and only realized at the start that I was wearing jeans. Ooops. I quickly rolled up my pant legs to make the look more stylish and off we went.
Me on my road bike and my partner on his beach cruiser quickly whizzed by the parents and four year old children and towards the front of the pack. We took back roads for half of the trip then a main road for the last half. It was a little puzzling that we were on such a busy road given that a lot of the Fun Riders were small children but at least the police were at each major intersection and so we didn’t have to stop once the whole last half. Yay! It’s so much more satisfying to keep moving forward rather than waiting on each light. At the end, we did 11 miles in ~51 minutes (I didn’t time it exactly because I forgot my watch at home). Pretty good for a someone on a beach cruiser and someone wearing jeans on a warmish day.
